Phenotype analyses of infiltrating cells in the lungs of MRL/lpr, MRL/+, and B6 mice. Cells obtained from whole lung preparations from 1- and 4-month-old mice (n = 5 per group) were stained by appropriate antibodies for phenotype analysis using flow cytometry. Data are expressed as percentages of cells, as described in Materials and methods. The percentages of CD4⁺CD3⁺ T cells and CD4^-CD8^- B220⁺CD3⁺ T cells (double negative [DN] B220⁺ T cells) were significantly increased, by 15.2% and 22.7%, respectively, in 4-month-old MRL/lpr mice in comparison with MRL/+ and B6 mice (*P < 0.05).
