Short-term changes in serum (S) levels of type I collagen C-telopeptide (CTX-I) correlated with long-term changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine. The percentage change the first year is plotted against the change in BMD after 2 years in the hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and control group. A regression line is inserted showing the significant inverse association.
