Positive VDIPEN staining was determined in various cartilage layers (LF, lateral femur; LT, lateral tibia; MF, medial femur; MT, medial tibia; P, patella) at an original magnification of ×100 by using automated image analysis and was expressed as a percentage of the total cartilage surface. VDIPEN staining was significantly lower at day 7 in lateral and medial femur and lateral tibia of p47phox-/- mice (d) than in wild-type mice on day 7 (c) Data are means ± SD for eight mice.
