OCP crystal-induced NO production is dependent on both transcription and translation. Bovine articular chondrocytes cultured on poly-HEMA-coated plates were stimulated with OCP crystals or IL-1β for 24 hours with or without pretreatment with (a,b) AcD, an inhibitor of transcription, or (c) CycH, an inhibitor of translation. AcD, actynomycin D; CycH, cycloheximide; GAPDH, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase; NO, nitric oxide; OCP, octacalcium phosphate; poly-HEMA, poly-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate).
