Reduced IL-1β and monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1 mRNA levels in mice lacking poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP)-1. IL-1β, MCP-1, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-6 and small inducible cytokine A5 (Ccl5) mRNA levels were measured by quantitative real-time PCR in arthritic joints of parp-1+ and parp-1o/o mice at day 7 after induction of collagen antibody-induced arthritis. Values are expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean of six to nine mice per group. Differences between parp-1+ and parp-1o/o mice were statistically significant for IL-1β (asterisk indicates p = 0.005) and MCP-1 (asterisk indicates p = 0.004) by Mann-Whitney U test.
