  1. Mice, allowed to age with no artificial immunostimulation either in the barrier breeding facility or in the conventional animal care rooms, were examined three times per week for the onset of polychondritis from 3 months to 1 year of age. Representative mice were euthanized and tissues were examined histologically to confirm the presence of disease. There was no difference in the disease incidence, the day of onset or the severity of disease, determined by the location of the mice.
