  1. The histological findings of an established (late stage) ANFH were defined as empty lacunae. Early signs of ANFH was considered when apoptosis occurred in more than three osteocytes and/or osteoblasts recognized in a high magnification field (×200); EO, number of early stages of osteonecrosis; LO, number of late stages of osteonecrosis; OA/GC, osteocyte apoptosis and/or ghost cell (a denucleated cell with an unstained center where the nucleus has been); OEL, osteocyte empty lacunae.
