The curative effects of different modalities to treat septic arthritis. The cure rate is expressed as the difference in the severity of arthritis between days 3 and 10 following S. aureus infection in NMRI mice (n = 19–30). All treatments were initiated on day 3 following intravenous inoculation of bacteria and continued until day 10. Positive values indicate amelioration of arthritis and negative values indicate increased severity of arthritis between days 3 and 10. Results are expressed as the mean ± SEM. *P < 0.05; **P < 0.005.
