Study design. The stable isotope labeled amino acid 13C6-phenylalanine was infused throughout the study period, and fractional synthesis rate (FSR) of muscle protein (vastus lateralis) was measured in the resting, fasted (BASAL) state and after intake of whey protein alone (PROT) and in combination with unilateral resistance exercise (EX) (PROT + EX).
