Effect of intra-articular injection on macrophage activation determined with 111In-EC0800 single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT). There was no difference between knee joints without intra-articular injection (white column) and knee joints injected with saline (light grey column) 1 day before SPECT/CT scanning. Knees injected with triamcinolone acetonide 1 day before SPECT/CT showed clearly increased radioactive uptake, which represents increased macrophage activation. ***:p < 0.001
