  1. The normal (n = 4) and osteoarthritic (OA; n = 6–12) chondrocytes were treated for 20 hours with thapsigargin (Tg; 50 nM) and tunicamycin (Tm; 500 ng/ml) and processed for qPCR. Each untreated control was assigned an arbitrary value of 1. The effect of each treatment was evaluated as fold change over control and expressed as mean values ± SEM. p values were assessed by the one-sample t test, comparing the treated chondrocytes to the untreated controls (arbitrary value of 1); values ≤0.05 were considered significant. Comparison between normal and OA was assessed by the Mann-Whitney test; data revealed no significant differences (p values not shown)
