Suppression of inflammation by low-dose methotrexate is mediated by adenosine A2A receptor but not A3receptor activation in thioglycollate-induced peritonitis

Inflammatory exudates were induced in the peritoneum of knockout and wild-type mice, as described. After 4 hours the exudates were collected and the leukocytes quantitated. The wild-type control mice were derived from the same heterozygous breeding pairs and were matched for age and sex. There was no difference in the number of leukocytes accumulating in the exudates of male vs female mice in either the knockout mice or wild-type mice. *P < 0.005 vs A₃ wild-type mice, Student's t test.
