  1. The mRNA expression for RANKL and OPG in hind paws of mice with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) was measured by quantitative real time PCR and corrected by mRNA expression for Ī²-actin in each sample. On day 10 of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) treatment, differences between the arthritic group and the CIA group treated with VIP were statistically significant (ap < 0.001). Results are the mean Ā± SEM of two independent experiments with 10 animals per group. OPG, osteoprotegerin; RANKL, receptor activator of nuclear factor-ĪŗB ligand.
