  1. Patients were diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis based on American College of Rheumatology 1987 diagnostic criteria at least 3 months before study entry and have active disease. The diagnosis of microcristalline arthritis was based on clinical and laboratory features. All patients fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology criteria for acute gouty or pseudogout. All patients gave informed consent.
