Reduced expression of toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) by B cells from active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. Representative flow cytometry histogram showing TLR9 staining for B cells (left). Combined data for TLR9 detection of B cells obtained from 6 SLE patients and 4 healthy donors (HD), respectively, did not show a significant difference in TLR9 detection, but B cells from patients with more active SLE (SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) ≥6) were found to express reduced TLR9 (Mann-Whitney U-test; ns: not significant; *P <0.05) (right panel).
