From: Transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) is functionally expressed in primary human osteoarthritic chondrocytes

Fig. 6

IL-1β-enhanced expression of MMP-1 (a), MMP-3 (b), MMP-13 (c), IL-6 (d), and PGE2 (e) in primary human OA chondrocytes is attenuated by pharmacological inhibition of TRPA1. Primary human OA chondrocytes were stimulated with IL-1β (100 pg/ml) in the presence and absence of the selective TRPA1 antagonist HC-030031 (100 μM) for 24 h. MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-13, IL-6, and PGE2 concentrations in the culture media were measured by immunoassay and the results are expressed as mean + SEM. Samples were obtained from eight patients and the experiments were carried out in duplicate. Paired t test was used in the statistical analysis; * p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01, and *** p < 0.001 compared to the IL-1β-treated samples. IL interleukin, MMP matrix metalloproteinase, OA osteoarthritis, PGE 2 prostaglandin E2, TRPA1 transient receptor potential ankyrin 1
