Effects of HA and adelmidrol combination on plasma levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). MMPs play a primary role in the downstream signaling pathways in osteoarthritis (OA) and cartilage degradation. The MIA + vehicle and 1% sodium hyaluronate group showed a markedly higher expression of MMP-1 (a), MMP-3 (b), and MMP-9 (c). Compared to the MIA group, the group treated with 0.6% adelmidrol + 1.0% sodium hyaluronate and, in particular, with 2% adelmidrol + 1.0% sodium hyaluronate showed a decrease in MMP-1, MMP-3, and MMP-9 expression (a–c, respectively). Data are means ± SEM of 10 rats for each group. *P < 0.05 versus sham, °P < 0.05 versus MIA + vehicle
