Radiographic measurement of disc height. Anterior disc height (Ha), middle disc height (Hm), and posterior disc height (Hp) were measured and calibrated. Disc height (DH) was calculated as (Ha +Hm +Hp) /3. The disc height index (DHI) was defined as: DH (L1–L2, L2–L3, L3–L4, or L4–L5 disc) / DH of L5–L6 disc (non-injection (NI) control). Change in DHI was expressed as percentage DHI (%DHI) and normalized to the measured baseline DHI: % DHI = (post-injection DHI/baseline DHI) × 100
